Personal Financial Readiness

The Military & Family Readiness Center’s Personal Financial Readiness Counselors assist service members and families by providing financial education, information, resources, and counseling services, equipping members to effectively address their current personal financial conditions and challenges that may occur throughout their service and attachment to the military life cycle. 

Spending Plan Development

Customers will be provided a M&FRC Customer Spending Plan worksheet that will allow for comprehensive budget development during one-on-one financial counseling sessions.

Bank Account Management

This coincides with one-on-one counseling sessions or group/unit training sessions. We provide an overview on how clients can keep track of account transactions, deposits/credits, and debits to ensure accurate accounting of expenses and early detection of fraud by reviewing bank account(s) on a regular basis.

Basic Investment, Including Thrift Savings Plan (TSP)

Clients are given an overview on what the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) is, contributions, choice of tax treatments, how to invest in TSP, withdrawals and distributions, TSP loans, and advantages military members who may receive tax-expempt pay for service in a combat zone tax exclusion area.

Debt & Credit Management Education, Understanding Your Credit Report/Score

Clients are provided an overview of common forms of debt, how to reduce debt, obtain and effectively manage credit, along with a discussion/overview of how to pull and review your credit report.

Home Buying Workshop

Topics include choosing a home, determining what you can afford, choosing a lender and loan, selecting a real estate agent, and negotiating and closing the deal.

Identity Theft Prevention

Customers are given information on what to do if identity theft happens to them, including immediate initial steps. Additionally, how to report an error/credit report dispute due to identity theft to the three main credit bureaus (Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax), and any additional information pertinent to the issues stemming from identity theft.
