Grassy Pond

Located in Lake Park, Georgia, Grassy Pond offers a serene escape for nature lovers, campers, and fishing enthusiasts. Open to the public, this scenic 500+ acre site features a variety of recreational opportunities, including RV camping, tent camping, and fishing on the tranquil 275-acre Grassy Pond and 30-acre Lott’s Pond.

Our teams have been working diligently to repair damages following Hurricanes Idalia and Helene as well as to improve existing amenities and add new features to the Grassy Pond Recreation Area.

We will begin a phased reopening with limited operations (to include fishing) on 1 June. As we continue making improvements, we will roll out full amenities later this summer.

Open to the public, this scenic 500+ acre site features a variety of recreational opportunities, including RV camping, tent camping, and fishing on the tranquil 275-acre Grassy Pond and 30-acre Lott’s Pond. Visitors can rent pedal boats, launch canoes & kayaks, fish from their own boat, the shore or one of the floating docks, making it a prime destination for anglers.

Grassy Pond’s amenities include nature trails, playgrounds, sports courts, picnic areas with grills, and four large covered pavilions, perfect for gatherings or special events. For overnight stays, there are 15 fully equipped cabins, 4 cottages, 39 RV sites, and 10 tent camping spots. The recreation area is also pet-friendly, ensuring your furry companions can join in the fun.

With additional features like laundry facilities, a snack bar, and indoor event space, Grassy Pond combines the beauty of outdoor adventures with modern conveniences, making it a top choice for family vacations, group events, and RV camping. Whether you’re planning a peaceful retreat or a lively gathering, Grassy Pond is the perfect destination.

Reservation and Cancellation Policy

Cabins/Cottages:
Reservations may be made up to one year in advance for active duty personnel and 180 days in advance for all other authorized users either by phone 229.559.5840, or in person.

Reservations for accommodations require a one day confirmation fee paid at the time of the reservation and the remainder due 2 weeks prior to check in.

Unless noted otherwise, cancellations made 15 days in advance will receive a refund. Cancellations made within 14 days will not receive a refund of the confirmation fee.

*Any updates or changes to your order need to be made 15 days prior to your stay as well.

Pet Policy

 Grassy Pond is great place for the whole family, including your Pet! Here are a few rules to keep in mind when bringing your pet to this facility:

  • Pets will only be allowed overnight stay in specified living quarters.
  • A Non-refundable pet fee will be charged at a rate of:
    • $50 a day for Military members and Civilians
  • Pets must be on a six-foot leash and under the control of the owner at all times while on Grassy Pond property.
  • Pets may not be secured outside or secured to government property. Owners must be in the immediate area where the pet is secured.
  • Pond area, docks, playgrounds, restrooms, and recreational buildings are off limits to pets.
  • Pets should never be left unattended in closed vehicles in extreme heat conditions.
    Pet owners must ensure their pets do not disturb shrubbery or flowers and are required to pick up and dispose of their pet’s waste.
  • Pet owners are responsible for ensuring that their pets do not disturb other patrons.

Boating Information

  • Fishing boats, a Deluxe Pontoon Cruiser (no fishing allowed), and pedal boats are available on a first come, first served basis at an hourly, half day, or daily rate. Children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by an adult on the pedal boats. Life jackets and floatation cushions are provided.
  • Motorboats for rent are only available to DOD card holders.
  • Boats with gas-powered motors can ONLY be rented out to DoD Civilians, Active Duty, and Retired Military.
  • Privately owned boats may be launched at the boat ramp for a small fee.
  • Please check in at the front desk prior to launching and when exiting so we can ensure your safety by accounting for everyone on the lake.

Fishing and Hunting Policy

Hunting is not permitted at Grassy Pond, as wildlife and plant life are protected in this area. Please respect the environment so that others can enjoy the beauty of Grassy Pond.

Grassy Pond is open year-round for fishing.

Bass, catfish, and brim are abundant. Customers ages 16 or older must have a valid Georgia State fishing license and a Moody AFB permit.

Moody AFB fishing permits can be purchased online only for daily or annual terms.

Fees collected for fishing permits go directly to resource management to maintain the pond. Fish size and limits are set by Georgia and are strictly enforced.

  • Enjoy our one-mile nature trail around Lott’s Pond (see map in button above).
  • Two additional trails can be found on either side of Grassy Pond.
  • Rest areas, picnic areas and information plaques can be found along the trails. Whether you take a healthy hike, or simply stroll and enjoy the scenic beauty, you will enjoy yourself.
  • Please no cycling.

Playgrounds

  • Grassy pond playgrounds offer many fun activities including swings, slides and more.
  • Use of playground is included with the Park entrance.
  • There is also a sand volleyball court, a basketball court and picnic sites at Grassy Pond. Balls, horseshoe sets, and outdoor games are available for rental at the front desk.

Cabins & Cottages

Can I rent overnight accommodations like cabins or cottages at Grassy Pond? What types of cabins or cottages are available rent?

Yes. Grassy pond offers cabins and cottages for rent.

Guests can choose from

  • 3-bedroom cabin, sleeps up to 8 guets
  • 2-bedroom cottage, sleeps up to 4

Each overnight accommodation is equipped with a stove, refrigerator, basic kitchen utensils, beds, and bed linens, television, and screened porch. Towels, washcloths and soap are not included.

Cabin or cottage reservation requires a 50% deposit at the ime of reservation. The remaining balance is due 15 days prior to scheduled check-in date.

Guests reserving a cabin or cottage for only one night will be required to pay the reservation cost in full at the time of reservation.

How do I reserve a cabin or cottage?

You can reserve a cabin or cottage by calling our office daily 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at (229) 559-5840.

 

How far in advance can I reserve a cabin or cottage?

Active duty military personnel can make reservations up to one year (365 days) in advance.

All other guests can make reservations up to 180 days in advance.

Are pets allowed in cabins/cottages?

Pets are allowed in certain overnight accommodations. Please be sure to book a pet-friendly accommodation when reserving your cabin or cottage if you plan to bring your pet(s).

A non-refundable pet fee will be charged for pets staying staying in pet-friendly accommodations.

  • Military member and Civilians

$50 /day

Any pets allowed by customers into cabins that are not set-aside as “pet friendly” will result in up to a $500 penalty as Grassy Pond will need to pay to have them professionally cleaned.

Where do I check-in for my cabin or cottage stay?

Costumers are required to check in at the Main Office (Bldg 2019) to sign the Hold-Harmless Agreements, present Military ID cards (if applocable), and get their cabin/cottage keys.

How do I check-in after hours?

If you think that you will be arriving after 5:00 p.m., then you will need to call the main Office at (229) 257-5840 to go through the process of after-hours check-in. The Grassy Pond staff want to make this process as smooth as possible, but it does require a few extra steps to do an after-hours check-in, so please make sure that you call as soon as you know that you will be arriving after 5:00 p.m. If you do not call before 5:00 p.m., then there could be an additional charge added to your rental fee due to a staff member having to come to Grassy Pond to help you gain access to your cabin/cottage.

Can I fish at Grassy Pond?

Yes, Grassy pond is open year-round for fishing. Guests aged 16 years and older who would like to fish must have a vaild Georgia State fishinf license AND a Moody AFB Fishing Permit.

There are several types of boats available for rent at Grassy Pond. Guests are also welcome to bring privately owned boats. Grassy Pond is a “no-wake” lake, so only trolling speeds are allowed. This rule strictly enforced for the safety and well-being of all guests.

Guests using privately owned boats are required to pay a boat launch fee and should inform office staff before launching their boat at the boat ramp to ensure guest safety.

Can I rent a boat from Grassy Pond?

Yes. Fishing boats, jon boats, a deluxe potoon cruiser (no fishing allowed), canoes, and pedal boats are available on a first come, first served basis at an hourly, half day, or daily rate.

Can I bring my own boat, or do I have to rent one use on Grassy Pond?

Privately owned boats may be used at Grassy Pond. Please remember that Grassy Pond is a “no wake” lake. Guests must pay a small fee to launch their boat at the boat ramp.

Fees collected for uding the boat ramp are used to maintain the boat ramp.

Guests using privately owned boats are required to pay a boat launch fee and should inform office staff before launching their boat at the boat ramp to ensure guest safety.

Camping Sites

Can I camp at Grassy Pond?

Yes, camping is allowed in designated camping areas at Grassy Pond. Grassy Pond offers 10 tent camping sites.

Is it necessary to make a reservation to camp at Grassy Pond?

Reservations are recommended but not necessary. Our team cannot guarantee availability without a reservation.

Can I bring my RV or camper to Grassy Pond?

Yes, we have 39 RV/camper sites available for rent with 30/50-amp hook-ups and water/sewer.

Can I sleep/camp in my automobile?

No.

How many people can I have on my campsite?

No more than 6 people per tent campsite is allowed unless granted approval by Grassy Pond Management.

May I put more than one camping unit on my campsite?

No more than two tents per tent campsite. 

Is there electricity available to RV sites?

Yes, RV sites are available with 30 and 50-amp service.

Do RV sites have water and sewage connection?

Yes.

 

Are pets allowed at tent campsites? RV campsites?

Pets are allowed at both provided that you keep them on a leash if they are not inside your tent or inside your camper. Also, according to the Lowndes County Animal Service Ordinance, it is illegal to chain or tether an animal to a stationary object.

Pavilions

Are pavilions open to the public?

Yes.

Can I reserve a pavilion?

Yes, you can reserve a pavilion by calling the main office Sunday – Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at (229) 559-5840.

If I have not reserved a pavilion, but I see one empty, may I use it?

No.

What amenities are included with a pavilion rental?

Each pavilion is screened-in and equipped with picni tables and ceiling fans. The pavilion price also includes 20 parking passes ($100 value) for you to disseminate to your guests as you see fit.

How many people does a pavilion accommodate?

100 people.

Where do I check in for my pavilion reservation?

You will need to check in at the Main Office (Bldg 2019).
